Jane Broderick is collaborating with ETSUs Child Study Center, working in a preschool classroom on a study entitled: Regional Music in an Emergent Preschool Setting: Following and Interpreting Children's Developing Understanding of Bluegrass and Old Time Music. We completed our baseline observations the first week of October and are introducing Bluegrass and Old Time music, instruments, and concepts into the classroom twice weekly through a student of Bluegrass, Lara Beth Poteat, who is also in our ETSU Early Childhood Program. Lonny Finley, Assistant Professor of Music, and Director of Bands and Instrumental Activities, at King College, Bristol, is a co-researcher. We have entered into a coalition with Creative Bridge Coalition (CBC), a not for profit 510(c)(3) organization with a mission to inspire those who care for and educate young children and children with special needs to successfully incorporate effective music programs into their efforts. This mission is pursued by creating and facilitating project-centered relationships among those who care for these children, those who create music programs designed for these children and those who wish to fund sustainable connections between the efforts of these two groups. It is a wonderful journey steeped in the rich cultural heritage of our area. We will send updates as we progress!
